Xomba
Xomba is a writing site that offers two writing venues, Xombytes and Xomblurbs, making it easy for new writers to get started and seasoned writers to grow continually.
Xomblurbs are summaries and links to interesting sites on the web. “Blurbs” must be at least 50 words and written in your own words. While blurbs can be a great way for new writers to break into the online writing arena, they can also help push traffic to a writer’s work on other sites.
Xombytes are full sized articles in almost every subject category. “Bytes” must be at least 150 words and of course your own work.
Authors earn for their writing on Xomba through shared Google Adsense revenue at a percentage of 50/50. Many sites that share Adsense revenue take a percentage of each click and pay the writer directly. Writers on Xomba must have a Google Adsense account (or can apply when joining Xomba) and are paid by Google. When articles are viewed, ads connected to the author’s account are displayed 50% of the time and Xomba’s account 50% of the time. When an ad is clicked while the displayed ads are connected to the author’s Google account, the author earns the value of that click in their own Google account.
Launched in August of 2006, one of Xomba’s many accolades today is the continued involvement and visibility of the founders on the site. They regularly communicate what is going on behind the scenes as well as encourage and listen to new ideas for Xomba.
Xomba’s other features include several writing contests per year with cash prizes, periodic workshops, referral program, private messaging, create a network of friends, article ratings and comments, article comment and view statistics, and chat between friends. In July of 2009, a total redesign of Xomba was launched. In addition to a fresh look, a new and improved text editor was added for easier article publishing. Featured writers were also added for each category. As of October 2009, some categories are still in need of featured writers. This is an excellent opportunity for writers to get their work seen and increase their reader base. Simply go to the category of interest. If there is an opening for a featured writer, follow the link to apply.
